چکیده

In this paper, we present a method to represent achromatic and chromatic image signals independently for content-based image indexing and retrieval for image database applications. Starting from an opponent colour representation, human colour vision theories and modern digital signal processing technologies are applied to develop a compact and computationally e-cient visual appearance model for coloured image patterns. We use the model to compute the statistics of achromatic and chromatic spatial patterns of colour images for indexing and content-based retrieval. Two types of colour images databases, one colour texture database and another photography colour image database are used to evaluate the performance of the developed method in content-based image indexing and retrieval. Experimental results are presented to show that the new method is superior or competitive to state-of-the-art content-based image indexing and retrieval techniques. ? 2002 Pattern Recognition Society. Embedded colour image coding for content-based retrieval

We present an image coding method explicitly designed for easy content access, i.e., content-based image retrieval. Based on a number of well-studied conventional image coding methods, namely segmentation-based image coding (SBIC), vector quantization (VQ), and a recently developed coloured pattern appearance model (CPAM), we have developed an image coding method with a compressed stream from w...

Content Based Radiographic Images Indexing and Retrieval Using Pattern Orientation Histogram

Introduction: Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is a method of image searching and retrieval in a  database. In medical applications, CBIR is a tool used by physicians to compare the previous and current  medical images associated with patients pathological conditions. As the volume of pictorial information  stored in medical image databases is in progress, efficient image indexing and retri...

Sequential Maximum Entropy Coding as Efficient Indexing for Rapid Navigation through Large Image Repositories

In this paper, we present a storage-efficient and computationally fast method for rapid navigation/browsing through large image repositories and for content-based image retrieval. In the developed system, multiple resolution and orientation achromatic and opponent chromatic channels are sequentially encoded by a maximal information sensory encoding model, which conveniently and effectively inde...

Statistical modelling for image retrieval using a biological model of the perceptive colour space

Natural image retrieval is a main challenge for image indexing. For image retrieval systems, colour information is one of the most important features. In this work, we propose a perceptive colour space based on a biological model of the retina. In this space, a model of Gaussian mixture appears very efficient for colour distribution. Two strategies are presented, retrieval by maximum likelihood...
